I always go with one of my photography/exploring buddies. She introduced me to urban exploration and... lets just say I was hooked.

Friday we're going to visit an abandoned army barracks, an abandoned hotel, and an abandoned school.

First weekend of October, we're goin to Miami and we're gonna hit up an old bank and a forgotten missile silo (that still has a missile). I'm pretty stoked.

Some people would say the D40 is better than the D60. I think I would have bought the D40 over the D60 if I would have known anything about photography before I bought my camera.

D40 is way way way way better in low light conditions, hands down. There are some cool things the D60 has that the D40 doesn't like Active D-Lighting to bring out details in the shadows, but really the D40 is probably a better purchase. D40 with the kit lens and an additional nicer lens is a better purchase than just a D60 and the kit lens.

Yea TBH i dont know much about photography besides point and shoot, and some nice angles for cars. The camera i use is a POS kodak junkmachine that is breaking and its near brand new. So ive seen results from the d60 and photoshop combined and id like to try to convince her.

Yeah, the D40 will pretty much get comparable photos to a D60 and D80.

You'll start really noticing an increase in quality when you get to the D90+

Yea but the D90 is like 800$ and i definatly cant pull that one off. Right now my mom lost a 500$ travellers check for the insurance deductable on my brothers car, and if we can find it she says well use it on the dang camera, but odds are we aint ever finding it. We checked everywhere

I just got a D90, but you wont see me selling that D40 anytime soon, i assure it is VERY good. I love that little camera, everything it does it does extremly well. It is an excellent step into DSLR if you havent used one before, the D90 would be a lousy first camera because of al the options, controlls, and features, it would be a bit overwhelming.

The D40 is a bit more automated, but you still have full controll of all the most important aspects.

Yer really not gonna miss those extra pixels either. My D90 has 12.3 MP, the D40 had 6.1

to give you an idea of the actual difference
D40 6.1mp image is 2000x3000 pixels
D60 10.2mp image is 2592 and 3872 pixels.

The D40's image size is only about 20% smaller than the D60 in the veritical and horizontal pixel count.

not a staggering difference.

you can print a 20inch x 30inch poster with 100dpi which is plenty for a picture that big.

while the D60 has the edge in MP count the D40 is a little better in low light.

The D60 and D40 are virtually the same in almost every way, The d60 can do stop-motion animation, and has a slightly higher MP count.

My personal reccommendation is buy the D40, put that saved money towards the 55-200 VR lens.

If you really want to see what the D40 can do, check this thread.
http://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/sho...&highlight=D40

unfortunatly i think you have to register, but it is a shining example of what you can do with that camera.

Here are a few of my favorite shots from the D40 that i actually have here at work. .... i have more at home that are even better.
. The only processing is some cropping..

EDIT: removed pics. This is switches pic thread not mine.

Chris, Logan is adorable.

And Ryan, you ever thought of going to old graveyards to take pictures? If you lived closer to me, I could show you some places.

Nah, the zombies only come out at night. Hopefully we'll drag some out tomorrow night when we do it again.
