Im reringing just because i dont know how long the motor sat and i have the the block disassembled anyways and getting engine hot tanked and crank tanked and either polished or turned its a 97 F-150 5.4L any idea what type of cast/forge the crank probly is i didnt look close enough to find any numbers. but the timing chains rubbed on block and timing cover the rod bearings/main bearings had several grooves cut into them by the shavings i beleive so im reringing incase the shavings got into the pistons.

cylinder walls had literaly no wear no scratches and were a perfect glaze cept for 1 cylinder that musta filled up with a lil water while the engine was sitting and got a top rust. so when i get it back its getting Honed/Crosshatched reringed new timing components. well here this is what i plan on putting into it maybe not the cams till another time tho. kinda put my pocket book in a crunch since it would cost 570 for cam 200 for springs and 50 for retainers so 820 bucks for an addition 20hp ;x

This is my post from the MM's forums

Going from NPI to NPI stock rering/bearinged bottom and PI top end
These are the deals ive found

Head Bolts - 45 for all of them new - ebay

Heads - 250 w/cams -Salvage- Cams Will be for sale cheap when i get the heads

Head Gasket Kit - $101 -Multi-layered steel head gasket/Exhaust manifold gasket/Intake manifold gasket/Valve cover gasket/Viton valve stem seals/Camshaft front/O-rings/Other Small Gaskets - Ebay

Rod Bearings - 150 - Summit

Fuel Injector Seals - 13 - Summit

Main Bearings - 45 - Clevite TM-77's - From Rock Auto

Crankshaft Seal - 11 - Fel Pro - Rock Auto

Timing Chain kit - 195 - Cloyes - Rock Auto - Crank, Chain (2), Guide (2), Tensioner (2), Tensioner Arm (2) in kit

Rings - 60 - Ebay

Cam w Springs - XE270 w behives and steel retainers - 820$

Tune - 400 for chip and the tune no matter if it takes 1 hr or 1 week ;>

now if anyone can fill me in on anything im missing or where to find any better deals that would be great ;>

if someone could price a rering kit with new timing components and main bearings for cheaper let me know ;> so far my rough total just for the rering is 625$ i beleive $1695 w/heads/cams w/o tune and 2100 total after tune

probaly 2500 once i add in Hot tanking engine and crank and possibly turn or polish on the crank

only paid 158 bucks for the engine and the cylinder walls were excellent but heads were in rough shape and its a 97 block ;> with maybe a total of .001 or so extra bore from ring wear ;> cant even catch the ridge at top of cylinder with a finger nail to give arough idea

and this is a 97 GT 5sp ...already has a new clutch and on 2nd new throwout bearing with that clutch POS aftermarket thing ;x but ford TO in there now and i know i still need and 8bolt flywheel...97stang has a 10.5in clutch correct?

I got one! You never mentioned rods! Stock or aftermarket? Go with aftermarket if you can, but if not and you stay with stock, you'll need to get some NEW rod bolts. They're TTY(torque to yeild) bolts and should only be torque once!

Want a bigger clutch? Look for the newer '99-up 8 bolt flywheels, they have an 11" clutch bolt patten.

The new Summit racing catalog has the New TrickFlow 2V heads for sale. It's like the 3rd or 4th page when opened.

I can't wait untill everyone buys them up, so I can get their junk stage 3 heads! LOL

yepp ill be getting bolts just having found a place that sells em. and stock rods cause right now forging the bottom end pushes me over the limit of my budget by a long ways. so my plans are the stock bottom end reringed/bearinged PI top end with possibility of cams xe270s or 278s cars gona stay NA with maybe giggle juice in long ways away future ;> sold my rocket so it gave me 2grand to spend on the car and about 500 in savings to spend but ied wrather not spend a full 2.5k right now im lookin at about 2100-2250 with tune and about 2500-2600 when you add on engine hot tank and crank work so as you can see already over budget granted that is with a cam that i might just hold off on till later and pull the engine again and put them in.

but right now looks like all those parts painted engine block/adapter plates and little tid bits and that finished 2500-2600 isnt right either forgot i already got 80mm MAF + 24lb injects for 100 and adapter plates and bolts and PI intake for 280 so pretty much ill have 3grand stuck into this motor when it hits the road with cams

Well the crank in the NPI motors are forged already and the set of forged H-beam rods are $300, and they come with bolts

I looked around some for kits..

The Mustang Depot kit
Its lower compression and no rod bearings, not sure if you could talk to them about flat tops.

http://www.cushmanmotorsports.com/in...oducts_id=1825
Alittle higher but comes with rod bearings.

I just checked the shipping price on the $300 set I posted before and its obscene, so I guess 345 is the cheapest then.

10.5" clutch is stock. The 5.4's crank you have is forged. See more notes below. I went from an 11" clutch to a 10.5" clutch since 10.5" stuff is cheaper and easier to find. You still though really need to consider myillwillinc's offer down below. You'd be a fool to discount it totally... you may get a deal you'll never see again.

great advice. I'd get the TMD h-beam rods. They're only 289 if you call them up and you can't even touch the quality for twice the price. Don't bother with cams if you aren't going to do the HPS intake and ported heads. You'll not make the power you'd expect to make to make it worth the expense. Get the H-beams instead and use nitrous to make up the difference. A 5.4 wtih stock cams is still a tough customer.

I'm thinking that may be a better idea for me than the TFS heads but I may still go with the TFS if I can find the money to be easy to spend.

Definitely going to want a diff cam... the 278's huge overlap will not help a turbo.

now you're thinking. Don't make me get you a discount. BTW... if you can find 4 other people to buy the rods too, then TMD will work a GP with you. I did it before.

Hi-Res pics and a movie coming today.

Put my momo suede steering wheel on just now. Pics tomorrow. It's a little smaller than stock which I was hoping was not the case but it's just the right distance from me now. The stocker was a little too close. Lost about 9lbs off the column.

Anybody want to buy an airbag? Never been used hehehe.

injectors should be there in a couple days... had TPS ship them when I picked up my car last week. I included a present in the box. Use it if you can. It's from a Termy.

For 96-97 you need a regulator for the kit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/94-98...Q5fAccessories
or
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/96-97...Q5fAccessories

other than that you'll need:
fuel rails (ebay or summit), npt to AN adapters, 3 hoses, Y or showerhead fitting. I'll see if I can mock one up. Parts are a little different car to car though. I'll need a pic under the hood to be sure.

Default These cars are fun!

this swap thing was a great idea! haha, i wish i didnt spend so much $ doing it ... but today i got in the car to goto the store and i nailed it as soon as i got on the road and spun the tires all the way up the rpm band, let off for a sec and nailed it again w/o touching the clutch and it spun even more...repeat as necessary until fully excited!
my car is such a show off... haha!

Well I think Im going with the PP adapter plates because I found a PI intake for $100 shipped and the plates are $200 shipped, I cant see spending the extra $500 for the HPS. Now too order the engine. I found a 2004 5.4 with 68k on it for $1349 plus 150 for shipping. Its a long block complete from TB to oil pan, including all accessorys and the 8 bolt flywheel. Anything else that I will need? I plan on swapping my 4.6 oil pan and exhaust manifolds to the 5.4. One thing im worried about is ignition. Do I stick with the 4.6 ignition system or use the COPS from the 5.4? Any suggestions?

Well the ignition isnt a problem, just use whats on the 4.6 but theres one issue with the '04 motor, its gonna be lacking two bolt holes on the timing cover for the power steering pump. I think they changed the front cover in '01, the earlier covers had the holes.

So either I can make the holes or get a different timing cover? Also what about TB/ plenum? What set up should I use there?

You're missing out on like 20hp with the PI intake. Cost can be a factor but I'd reconsider IIWY. BTW... 2004 5.4's are 3v's. Won't work with a PI intake. If you want to swap your 2v stuff over you can... sorta like recording a vinyl record to a CD-ROM but meh...

and then there's that...

Ok, nvm. My bad the engine is an 03 out of an expedition. Will I still have issues with the the timing cover? Also wondering what MAF, TB and plenum to use. Sorry about the dumb questions. I just want to make sure I have everything ready to go. I plan to do a swap in one weekend, so I want to make sure that I have every little piece I need.

Awesome, I was just checking the tracking info on that. You will notice that the rear of the driver's side plate is drilled & tapped @ 3/8" NPT. I used that for an aftermarket temp gauge. If you are only using the stock temp gauge, you will need to plug that. Glad to hear they made it over the pond that quick too. Keep us updated with your progress.

if you're on a tight budget you can re-use the stock tb/plenum.

no problem; my knowledge about the fuel system is very little, but with it being a return style it should be less of a PITA right?

assuming you are talking about the reservoir:
thats ok, I made it work. there is actually a position you can put the power steering reservoir bracket in and make it work. I will send pics when you are getting into it.
