electric gauges

I found a diagram on how to install an electric tach but cant find out how to install a engine temp, trans temp, oil pressure or anything like those. How do you hook them up without using mechanical gauges?

Well..I guess I dont get it but...you already have an electric tach and electric engine temp and electric Oil pressure as part of your stock cluster. As for trans temp...I think you have to tap into something and run the wires up to the gauge of your choice.

yeah i have those stock gauges but the temp shows hot or cold and oil pressure shows high or low. I wanna know exact numbers. I got the fill a pod that goes on the trim by the door but i dont know where the sensors are to hook up the gauges.

So what actual guages do you have?

and here is a link to autometer that will help alot, i can answer some other ones after you check it out.

i want to hook up engine temp, oil pressure, and trans temp. But on the engine temp if i unhook the stock sensor then the fan wont kick on at the right temp, i learned a long time ago by hooking up a mechanical gauge where the stock sensor is screwed in(young and dumb mistake). Where would the oil pressure sensor go and the trans temp?? I looked at the diagrams on that site but i dont really understand where to actually plug the one wire/adapter that gives you your readings. Should i just have a shop do it, or do they charge an arm and leg?

For the oil pressure on the front of the engine by the filter is a sensor with a connnector and wire going to it. Near that is a small plug on the same part as the other sensor. Take the plug out and install the autometer sensor there, then do the simple wiring.

For coolant temp just tap into the stock manifolds temp sensor. And wire it up accordingly. If you don't own a hanyes or chilton manual for your car go get one it will tell you what each wire does (ie ground power etc...) will make this alot easier for you.

For the tranny there is a random plug on the dirverside of the tranny near the metal shift-linkage. unbolt it and you should see some fluid come out. This is a inspection/service port and you can install the temp probe there. Then just wire it up with ground, power, switched 12v power just like the others.

Oh and for getting power for the lighting on all of them i would tap into the stock headlight switch use the hanyes manual to find the one that works the dimmer, then you can dim them just like the stock gauges. Trust me this is nice at night sometimes.
